Statues Define Your Garden Language
By Glenna Andree
On a visit to a museum or public garden spot, you expect to see some statues. However, when you plan your home garden, you often forget that they can do for your roses the same things they do in a more public setting. An outdoor garden statue becomes a center of focus that ties together all the hard work you have invested in your landscape. Think of it this way, a composer can create a wonderful melody that makes an impression on you. You may not know why it has an impact, you just know that you like it. When words are added to the music, it brings a whole new dimension to your appreciation of it. The words have expanded your understanding, allowing you to express what you feel to others. Garden statues do the same thing for your garden. You have spent a lot of time and effort creating a certain atmosphere. Your garden might be for meditation, relaxation, definition (like an entryway) or even food production. What ever form it takes, it makes an impact on you and anyone who visits it, but it is a pretty wordless impact. When you thoughtfully choose a statue to complement what you have created, it defines your landscape. Like adding words to music, statues cause us to actually see what the garden mood is. You will find that you and your visitors naturally return bringing others along to see it. |

Children naturally understand the language of statues.
